Image has been rather notorious as of late for rolling out plenty of shiny new #1’s. As it turns out this week is another entry in that long list of New Comic Book Wednesdays with a few on tap, some of which are notable enough to be in the group of highlights. But we’ll get there.

DC trots out another tie-in with Batgirl: Endgame #1, as well as Batgirl #40, Batwoman #40, Injustice Gods Among Us Year Three #12, Red Hood & the Outlaws #40, Supergirl #40, and Teen Titans #8. There is also Kitchen #5 under their Vertigo imprint.

Marvel has a few titles but nothing really outstanding this week. What they do have is All-New Captain America #5, Amazing Spider-Man #16.1, Black Widow #16, Bucky Barnes Winter Soldier #6, Captain America & the Mighty Avengers #6, Cyclops #11, Hulk #13, Moon Knight #13, Princess Leia #2, Silk #2, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #3, and a double-dose of “Black Vortex” with All-New X-Men #39 plus Guardians Team-Up #3.

Image has C.O.W.L. #9, Invisible Republic #1, Manhattan Projects Sun Beyond the Stars #1, Outcast by Kirkman & Azaceta #7, Satellite Sam #12, and Zero #15.

Elsewise, Dark Horse has Frankenstein Underground #1 and Ei8ht #2, IDW has G.I. Joe A Real America Hero #211, Judge Dredd #28, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44, and Transformers #39.

Two brosefs go surfing through the time stream, but will they use this adventure for good or gain? Talent-packed with writer Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, The Secret Service [which was loosely adapted for Kingsman: The Secret Service]) and artist Sean Murphy (The Wake with Scott Snyder).

Superman #39 (DC)

Writer: Geoff Johns, Artists: John Romita, Jr. + Klaus Janson, $3.99

Superman went supernova to take care of Ulysses, but the unintended consequence is that he now needs time to recharge, which leaves Kal-El essentially a human for some time. Geoff Johns caps off his entertaining run on Superman, which will be taken over after Convergence by Gene Luen Yang (Avatar: the Last Airbender series for Dark Horse).

Green Lantern New Guardians #40 (DC)

Writer: Justin Jordan, Artists: Diogenes Neves + Marc Deering, $3.99

Xavier Dorison (Long John Silver, The Third Testament) and Terry Dodson + Rachel Dodson (Uncanny X-Men, Princess Leia) bring this high-octane series about a Russian spy sent to 1977 Los Angeles to become an American superhero and spread communist values.

Batman/Superman #20 (Marvel)

Writer: Greg Pak, Artists: Ardian Sya +, Sandra Hope, $3.99

So we at least know who has been tormenting Superman as of late. The question is can the World’s Finest stop this evil-doer as well as save the Kandorians under the evil spell? Plus another week of DC movie poster variants!
