This week is all about fun. Because July had the happenstance of five Wednesdays, DC took the opportunity to push some annual issues this week which include Detective Comics Annual #3, Aquaman Annual #2, and Red Lanterns Annual #1. Elsewise there is Harley Quinn #8 and a new Sandman Overture #3. Marvel has a new Guardians of the Galaxy #17 just in time for the movie opening this week, a continuation of their “No End in Sight” special crossover with Iron Man Special #1, more secrets revealed in Original Sin #3.3, and a handful of Avengers titles. Dark Horse has a new Star Wars Rebel Heist #4, Dynamite has Red Sonja #0, IDW Publishing has New Ghostbusters #18 plus they recently announced a TMNT/Ghosbusters crossover starting October.
Justice League #32 (DC)
Anything that is at least loosely tied to the fallout of “Forever Evil” has been fun so far, and that especially holds true for the Justice League book. Spoiler alert on a comic book that has been available for over a month (so I don’t feel bad), but Lex Luthor knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman (how AWESOME was that scene!). The price of poker just went waaaaay up.
Wake #10 (DC/Vertigo)
Scott Snyder can do no wrong, but the Wake limited series gives the current Batman writer and former acclaimed American Vampire writer something more up his alley, that being writing horror comics. Wake is a completely bonkers and very acclaimed series that has drawn lots of attention and this is where it all ends.
New Avengers #21 (Marvel)
All of the yarns that Jonathan Hickman has been weaving since the beginning of Marvel NOW! and his Avengers epic are starting to come completely together. In the New Avengers yarn, the select group of Avengers have been faced with a decision that is kind of making them bad guys and this issue advertises that a decision must be made. The way that Superior Iron Man has been discussed makes it sound as though Tony Stark is currently persona non grata but could this issue put somebody else on the naughty list?
Aquman Annual #2 (DC)
You can’t spell action without A, but you also can’t spell Aquaman without A….I guess you also can’t spell annual. Anyway, this annual is going to be tons of fun because Aquaman unleashed something in his battle with Hercules so he’s enlisting the help of Wonder Woman to try and take care of the Giant-Born. Annuals have typically been replete with action and this one looks like it is going to be just as advertised.
Red Lanterns Annual #1 (DC)
Speaking of DC Annuals, Guy Gardner is going to go toe-to-toe with Red Lantern baddie Atrocitus (speaking of A), which will take place in a planet in the Red Lantern’s sector. Oh did I mention that planet is Earth? And did I mention that RED LANTERNS WILL DIE?!
