Warner Bros. released a new featurette that will be included with the Blu-ray release of Man of Steel that takes a behind the scenes look at how Snyder filmed the flying scenes in the film. Both practical and digital trickery was employed to pull off the fast paced flying action of Superman and Zod. Sometimes Snyder used wires, others a rotating table of sorts, and in all a splash of CGI. In reality, he and his team used a combination of all three effects to bring the most true to form flying action to the finished product.
From a fan’s perspective I have to say that Snyder did a bang up job with Superman and Zod’s flying mechanics. The motion was fluid and believable, if not too fast at times, but overall it sold the idea of a Kryptonian zipping around Earth’s atmosphere as if he or she had a jet pack hidden up their anus. Head on down below to preview the “All Out Action Flying” clip.
Man of Steel releases November 12, 2013 on Blu-ray and DVD.
