There’s a solid mix of new releases this week, so let’s see what’s on tap.
Deadmau5 – while(1>2)
This is the seventh studio album from the Canadian-born music producer/performer. This two-disc 25-track album takes a little different path from his previous records, including a few radio-friendly, non-dance songs, as he explained to inthemix.com. He celebrated the completion by participating in the Gumball 3000 with his Ferrari turned cat, Purrari.
Jennifer Lopez – A.K.A
JLo sends forth another effort by releasing her tenth album while juggling TV shows, movies, and the World Cup theme song. Oh, and she gave Jimmy Fallon a lesson about who’s allowed to wear tight pants. Apparently only she is.
Lana Del Rey – Ultraviolence
The follow-up to her 2012 hit record Born to Die is my pick of the week. Del Rey collaborated with the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach for the production of the album at Auerbach’s Easy Eye Studios in Nashville, where the album was recorded. He spoke about the sessions in an interview with Rolling Stone:
“Her demos were so good, her songs were so strong that I wanted to get my musicians in who I love and get my sound that I get here with her songs and that’s it. I didn’t want to mess it up. She sang live with a seven-piece band. That’s the whole record – a seven-piece band with her singing live. It was crazy.”
The Felice Brothers – Favorite Waitress
The new album from these folk-rockers goes back to some of their earlier roots as they continue to make waves in the New York scene. Consisting of two brothers (previously three, but one left the band), they got their start playing in subways and eventually got signed. They have spent time touring with Bright Eyes, Levon Helm, Old Crow Medicine Show, Justin Townes Earle, and opened a couple of nights for the Dave Matthews Band.
Take some time to check out new music; you just might find your new favorite band.
