Your weekly dose of what’s on tap for this week in music releases:

Ed Sheeran – X

The new album from the English song-writer continues his trend of naming albums after math signs, following up 2011’s “+”. Rumors are the next album name is a toss up between “π” or  “\sqrt{x} “.

Mastodon – Once More ‘Round The Sun

The sixth studio album by the Georgia based metal group is my pick of the week. Not only is the album art incredibly cool, but the video for the first single (above) has a nerd playing D&D with his grandmother, and some redemption in the world of LARPing.

Phish – Fuego

After taking a five year break between albums, Phish’s new record was available a week early via NPR’s “First Listen” series. In traditional Phish fashion, the final product was written when they got together at The Barn, a studio owned by by guitarist Trey Anastasio.

A Sunny Day In Glasgow – Sea When Absent

A bit under the radar, ASDIG is releasing their fourth studio album this week. While going through numerous band members since its inception in 2006, they have garnered interest in New York, hitting number one on NYU’s WNYU and receiving critical acclaim on Pitchfork Media. The album is available for streaming up until the album’s release here.

Take some time to check out new music; you just might find your new favorite band.
