Gamescom 2013 is now under way, so an influx of news and updates will be flooding in all week.

The latest update to come out of Germany deals with Tom Clancy’s The Division and its companion app for tablets. Much like Battlefield 4’s commander mode, or Dead Rising 3’s smartphone app, The Division’s companion app will allow gamers to interact with the game world from the comfort of their tablet.

This companion app is far from a gimmick as you’ll see in the preview trailer after the break, as well as in the new screenshots for it. Players using a tablet can do everything from providing aid and defense, to going on the offensive. The app itself features a pulled back third person view to give the player a full look of the map, which can be navigated with simple touch controls. If this is where the second screen experience is headed I think all gamers will soon realize how much value apps of this nature can add to a game’s overall gameplay experience.

Tom Clancy’s The Division is a next-gen title in development for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
