New Rogue One Images Released and Vader’s Presence in the Film Detailed

EW is continuing to roll out tasty morsels of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story goodness this week thanks to its latest issue will focus on the standalone Star Wars film. Yesterday we learned more about the characters, and now today EW has shared Vader’s role in the film, and a bunch of new images from the film.

Let’s start with Vader, who will be used “sparingly” according to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. Although, she went on to say, “at a key, strategic moment, he’s going to loom large,” so it sounds like he’ll get limited, but very impactful screen time. I’m guessing he’ll be the one to wipe out most of Jyn’s recon team and possibly Jyn herself, because there’s no way any of them survive or they would have to be a part of the original trilogy of films.

Apparently Vader is still a behind the scenes type of player and mainly the Emperor’s enforcer, so not even the Imperials fully understand who this mysterious black helmet wearing badass is. He and the film’s main villain, Director Orson Krennic, will not be best buds either. In fact, it sounds like the two will have a very contentious relationship, so maybe Vader will kill him too for his failings. From the Rebels’ viewpoint Vader will still be an unknown entity in Rogue One, and more of a legend or bogeyman like he is to most of the Empire.

You can read the full Vader expose on EW, but before you do make sure to check out the newly released images from Rogue One, which are embedded after the break. Pay special attention to the Stormtrooper doll that a Deathtrooper is holding, because apparently it will play a role in the story. If anything else it looks like the Rebel doll that Rey has in her hovel in The Force Awakens. Interesting.
