A user on Vimeo named Blue_Monkey posted 6-minutes of Star Wars Battlefront 3 gameplay footage from its alpha build, and the action is a grim reminder of a great franchise that had its run prematurely ended. At this point in time this sequel is DOA. Lucasarts is no more, and Disney is now in charge of any new Star Wars based games, so Battlefront 3 will probably never see the light of day.
Regardless, it’s still fun to dream about what could’ve been in Star Wars Battlefront 3, and the new leaked footage is a great look at what the gaming world is missing out on. It’s a shame that the powers at be never allowed Free Radical to develop this game to fruition, because it shows a ton of promise even in the low-res alpha footage seen below. Based on the video’s description this game’s scale was going to be massive, and the gigantic star ships you’ll see were actually meant to be controlled by groups of human characters, and that’s just a glimpse of Battlefront 3’s feature set.
Hopefully Disney one day realizes the potential of a game like this and starts to put out new Star Wars games again, because it’s a tragedy that Battlefront 3 never made it past its alpha phase. You can see it in action after the break. You’ve been wondering why this game never made it out of development…
