New Video Game Releases for the Week of 11-5-17

Nintendo’s truly the victor this week in terms of broadened game libraries; however, most of what’s coming this week continue to be ports from one console to another…with a few exceptions.

The Xbox One X comes out this week—which is huge—but with only one new game to show off its technical prowess: Super Lucky’s Tale. Otherwise, it looks like soon-to-be Xbox One X owners will have to look for any updates to their existing game library to take advantage of the new specs.

Sonic Forces, the newest 3D Sonic adventure that lets you customize your own character in the Sonic universe, drops this Tuesday. 3D Sonic games are one of my favorites to keep an eye on—its reception alone is bound to be entertaining. For as good as Sonic Mania is, it’s a tall order for Sonic Forces to match. Let’s all hope the hedgehog gets off on the right foot this week, yeah?

Horizon: Zero Dawn gets The Frozen Wilds DLC that nearly every PS4 owner’s been waiting for, while racing fans get a little love with the release of Need for Speed Payback. Nioh comes to PC, Hitman receives the “Game of the Year” treatment for all platforms (sans Switch), and those playing the console version of The Elder Scrolls Online finally get to jump into Clockwork City alongside their PC brethren. For all you Nintendo lovers: you may want to give Octodad: Dadliest Catch a shot on Thursday if you’re looking for a new Switch game. If that’s not cutting it, wait till Friday to pick up Snipperclips Plus: Cut It Out, Together. Or DOOM, Bethesda’s iconic shooter, if you’re looking for something a little…bloodier.

Prefer the 3DS? Minecraft is coming to the portable system with a new edition (surprise, surprise), but Mario Party: The Top 100 will be out this week for those finally tired of all the mining and crafting.

As always, everything is for PC unless stated otherwise, and the bold titles are the games that have piqued my interest.

The author Zachery Bennett

Zach’s eternal preoccupation with video games became cemented at an early age. His first memorable journey away from reality began with a text-based Football game on a dirty Apple II; he’s chased fantasy ever since. Having took English classes as electives in college, Zach decided to pull the trigger on a merger between the two obsessions.
