New Video Game Releases: What Gamers Want for the Week of 9-29-14

One thing is clear about this week’s new video game releases, and that’s the fact that there are a ton of them. The big name releases for the week are Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, which releases for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC, as well as Forza Horizon 2, which is an Xbox One and Xbox 360 exclusive.

If AAA releases aren’t your bag, then you’ll be happy to know that a plethora of smaller titles are coming out this week to keep your ADD riddled brain occupied. Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishment is releasing for multiple platforms, while Outland, Cosmochoria, Shadow Puppeteer, Tiny Keep, Star Drive 2, Space Noir, and Final Horizon are all releasing for PC only.

The PlayStation family of consoles and handhelds are getting more than a few new releases this week. Pier Solar and the Great Architect, Invizimals: The Alliance, Hotline Miami 2, Forma.8 (Wii U and PC too), Pavilion, Race the Sun, and Super Exploding Zoo are all releasing for the PS4, PS Vita, PS3, or a combination of the three.

Other multi platform releases include: Persona 4 Arena Ultimate, Falling Skies The Game, Chariot, Tetris Ultimate, and Watch Dogs: Bad Blood.

Finally, Nintendo fans that have been dying to play Super Smash Bros. will be able to do so this Friday when it releases for the 3DS.

Our Recommendation

Based on a gameplay preview I experienced at PAX Prime, and the early reviews, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is a no brainer to pick up this week. Forza Horizon 2 is also an excellent video game, so racing game fans should definitely plan on picking it up. You can’t really go wrong with Super Smash Bros. either, so choose wisely between these three, or go all in and pick each one up to ensure you never see the light of day again.
