Nintendo Inks Exclusive Sonic Deal, Brings E3 to the Public
Nintendo is trying to make the Wii U relevant again by signing an exclusive deal with Sega to bring the next Sonic the Hedgehog game to the console. Sonic Lost World will also be available for the 3DS, and more details will be revealed before E3 2013.
Speaking of E3, Nintendo also revealed today that they will be bringing the show to the public via a deal with Best Buy. The retail chain will have playable demos of a select set of Wii U games that will be shown behind closed doors at E3. This is a first among the big three console makers, and it’s a move that Nintendo had to make to bring some sort of excitement to their E3 this year.
The question is, will the jaded legion of Nintendo fans even care about playing these games early? The Wii U software lineup has been stagnant since the console’s launch, and outside of a few first party games, there hasn’t been many titles worth playing. Maybe this is the move that will put Nintendo back in the good graces of its long time fans. Only time will tell, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction for the storied Japanese game company.
