One of the Best Xbox One X Features Is Its Lack of Loud Fans

The Xbox One X is a powerful 4K gaming console that can do a litany of awesome things. It can play games in native 4K at 60fps. It can play 4K Blu-rays with HDR. It can stream 4K HDR content through apps that supports it, and it can even record 4K game clips with its built-in DVR. It really is a great gaming console for people who have taken the 4K plunge.

Microsoft has beat into our heads that it has 40% more power than any other console on the market, so you may be thinking that it could be loud due to fans needing to keep all of the powerful guts in a cool state. I’m happy to report that this isn’t the case at all, in fact, the Xbox One X is the most quiet console I’ve ever used outside of the Nintendo Switch, but that isn’t comparing apples with apples, so I don’t factor the Switch into my claim. In terms of traditional consoles, and definitely most modern PC’s, the Xbox One X fan sound is nothing more than a whisper.

I was wholeheartedly expecting it to be just as loud, if not louder than the Xbox One S, but when I unboxed it and saw that it lacked the massive fan on its top that the One S had, I began to wonder what the One X would sound like. After hooking it up and pushing the Xbox button I found my answer. This console, with all of its impressive guts, is no louder than an idling SSD drive, or an Apple TV. Unless you get within a foot or less of the console, you’re not going to hear it. This is especially the case when you’re playing games that have been downloaded and aren’t running off a disc, but even disc based games, and 4K Blu-rays, don’t raise the decibel levels too much.

For people like me who have spent money to create a solid 4K home theater setup complete with a massive display and a capable sound system, the last thing I want to hear is a console’s fan blowing to screw up my ambiance. Thanks to the Xbox One X, I now can game and watch UHD movies without having to worry about hearing the console buzzing during quiet segments of a game or a movie/TV show.

Sometimes it’s the little things my friends, so while the Xbox One X is packed full of awesome, to me, one of its best features is its supremely quiet fan.
