In the Spring of 2011, Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) was informed that Universal Studio would not support him with his H.P. Lovecraft’s ‘At The Mountain of Madness’ adaptation to screen. I can’t imagine how depressing it must have been as Del Toro had hardly left The Hobbit set for his dream project when he heard the bad news.  Worst of all, he was actually flying over Alaska checking out the best locations for the filming of Madness, when he learned that the production was already stopped.

It takes much more to bring down our favourite Mexican director though, because Guillermo del Toro is back with a very very exciting new movie to be released next year called Pacific Rim!

Idris Elba stars in Pacific Rim

This movie takes place in a distant future where humanity is at war against the Kaijus,  who are antediluvian monsters coming from the abysses with the clear intention to devastate the Earth. While humanity suffers millions of death, the only hope resides in the Jeagers; which are gigantic combat robots. And when I say gigantic, I mean it, as you can see from the preview poster announcing the first trailer for Rim at Comic-Con 2012 below. We’ll make sure to get that trailer posted once it goes live next, so stay tuned for more Pacific Rim news ;)
