Halo Wars was an interesting game when it released seven years ago. While it was hardly the deepest and most complex real time strategy out there, it was perhaps the first time that a developer had succeeded making an RTS for console gamers. At Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference, 343 Industries announced that there would finally be a follow-up, in the form of Halo Wars 2.

The announcement was accompanied by a couple of other interesting details, primary among them being that there’s an open beta running on Xbox One over the course of the next week.

The other major piece of information coming out of the Halo Wars 2 announcement is the fact that the game is going to be a part of Microsoft’s boundary-smashing cross play feature, meaning that it will be playable on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

Halo Wars 2 will be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC in 2017.
