Prey Really Isn’t Prey According to Arkane Studios’ Raphael Colantonio

Bethesda has released a developer interview from E3 that feature’s Arkane’s Raphael Colantonio talking about the newly announced Prey game that was shown off at E3, and what it really is. One thing is for sure and that’s the fact that this new Prey isn’t tied to the old Prey in any fashion, so it has no relation to the original whatsoever.

In fact, Colantonio said that, “Prey is not a sequel, it’s not a remake, it has no tie with the original,” so I think that pretty much says it all. The new Prey is only related to the original via its name, nothing else about it is based on what fans know of the Prey universe from playing the first Prey. When you listen to him essentially say that Arkane’s Prey is a brand new take on the franchise you have to wonder why they even kept the brand name. If this new game has absolutely nothing to do with the original then why not cook up an entirely new IP?

In the end this game’s namesake is only that, so its gameplay and fun factor will ultimately come down to how well the project is executed, so while it’s weird that Arkane’s Prey really isn’t Prey, there’s hope that it is still a kick ass video game experience to play.
