Pyre has an impressive pedigree. Developed by Supergiant Games, Pyre comes on the heels of both Bastion and Transistor.

And while those might be some big shoes to fill, Pyre’s recently released E3 trailer, shows that the game is headed in the right direction.

Set in a world where reading is almost entirely unheard of Pyre combines an Oregon Trail-like caravan section with a fast-paced, combat sport. It’s the kind of game that is undeniably difficult to explain in words, but the new trailer does a decent enough job at teasing Pyre’s world and interesting blend of game mechanics.

At the moment, Pyre has no firm release date, but it is scheduled to launch sometime in 2017.

Hopefully I can find a way to hone my religious-persecution neo-sports skills until then.
