Lockout, de_dust2, Gridlock. These aren’t just multiplayer maps beloved by thousands of gamers the world over; these are iconic battlegrounds, sites of glorious triumphs and crushing defeats. With Gears of War: Ultimate Edition coming out later this year, developer The Coalition has dropped a video explaining their approach to remastering the most important multiplayer map in the franchise.

Considering Gridlock has mad an appearance in every single entry in the Gears franchise, it’s easy to see why The Coalition would place such a heavy emphasis on getting their remaster right. From deciding which version of the map to update to figuring out how to approach the weather for the beachside town, it looks like every single aspect of the map came under consideration.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition releases November 7, 2015.
