Rian Johnson Has Shut Down the Benicio Del Toro as Ezra in ‘The Last Jedi’ Speculation

This past weekend at D23 Good Morning America interviews Rian Johnson, who is the Director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and they asked him to clear up a rumor about one of the characters. In particular, he was asked if Benicio Del Toro’s D.J. character is actually the live-action version of Ezra Bridger from Star Wars Rebels. Many fans, including myself by way of a video, have speculated that Del Toro could be an adult Ezra, but based on Rian’s GMA interview, it sounds like we were all wrong.

When asked about D.J. being Ezra Rian says that he’s his own character. He does confirm that D.J. is only a working name for Benicio’s character, and that his real name will be revealed later, probably in the movie. There is still plenty of mystery behind this D.J. character, so stay tuned for more details as they become available.
