During an event held in Seattle yesterday Nintendo confirmed the existence of a Shovel Knight Amiibo, which marks the first time an indie game will support Amiibo technology. The figure will unlock exclusive content on both the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game.

On the Wii U players will be able to scan the figure in to play the game cooperatively for the first time, which is pretty radical. Both the Wii U and 3DS versions will also get visual enhancements, relics and abilities, which all can be used in the exclusive Amiibo unlocked challenge levels.

At this time pre-order details and a release window have yet to be unveiled, so stay tuned for those announcements once we receive them.
