The free-to-play mobile strategy game, The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-Earth, is getting a timely update today in anticipation of the release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on December 13, 2013. Both Android and iOS users can now grab The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Expansion Pack for free from Google Play, or the App Store, to add a whole new challenge to the popular Kingdoms of Middle-Earth title.
The expansion obviously adds Smaug the Dragon to the game, so now players will have to conquer this evil foe to gain notoriety for themselves in the game’s version of Middle-Earth. New weapons and armor will be made available to help assist in your quest to conquer the gold loving dragon as well.
Considering that The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth has grossed nearly $100 million in just one year is proof enough that this is one helluva popular title with Tolkien fans. Mind you that this is a free-to-play game, so all of the earning have come from gamers voluntarily paying for in-game purchases. You can check out even more impressive stats about this game after the break.
If you’ve never given this game a try today is the day to do so now that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Expansion Pack is available. At least it’ll give you something to occupy your time while you wait for the release of the second Hobbit film.
