It’s no secret that my favorite arcade game ever is Star Wars Trilogy Arcade. I will stop whatever I’m doing if I see a cabinet and pump in a few dollars worth of quarters. However, there may be a new game that takes that coveted spot and it’s Star Wars: Battle Pod.
It takes elements and levels from Star Wars Trilogy Arcade and puts a new coat of paint on them along with a few news bells, whistles, and levels. For starters, the cabinet is in the shape of a pod complete with a unique dome screen that makes it feel like you’re actually zooming around in an X-Wing or any of the numerous other ships. There are speakers strategically placed throughout the dome plus a rumble seat, all to make this experience feel as realistic as possible.
Some previews show off levels that are not unlike the ones found in Star Wars Trilogy Arcade, like running through the trench of the Death Star or riding a speeder bike on the forest moon of Endor. But Star Wars: Battle Pod ups the ante and will let you fly around in the Millennium Falcon and Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter.
This ultimate Star Wars fan experience is expected in arcades around January 2015, but until then go under the dome in a great behind-the-scenes feature to see what went into creating this action-packed arcade shooter!
