Star Wars Fans Will Need the Oculus Quest to Play the ‘Vader Immorta’l VR Experience

Yesterday, ILMxLAB revealed a new Star Wars themed VR experience called Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series, which is a three part VR experience created by the Lab and David S. Goyer. The project is more or less a follow-up to the radical as hell Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire VR experience that was featured in Disney Parks last year thanks to a partnership with The Void. This time though it’s being built for the Oculus Quest to enjoy it from your own home rather than jetting off to Disney and donning a heavy VR suit of sorts. So that pretty much means Star Wars fans like myself will now have to pick up the Oculus Quest, which is a new standalone VR headset and controller bundle that doesn’t require cables or a PC to use.

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series will play out over three planned episodes, and the story will take place in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and players will return to Vader’s castle on Mustafar, which was first shown off in Rogue One. The experience is slated for 2019, but an official release date hasn’t been announced. The Oculus Quest doesn’t release until 2019 either, so I’m assuming that they’ll probably release together to gain a few more sales by including Vader Immortal as a launch title. Either way, we will be paying close attention to this story as it unravels, so stay tuned for details.
