Star Wars: The Clone Wars Comes to an End on Cartoon Network

Lucasfilm Animation officially announced that they have stopped making new episodes of the animated Clone Wars series for the Cartoon Network.  While the series has officially ended on the CN it’s not completely dead yet.  According to their official statement Lucasfilm does indeed still have a few tales from the Clone Wars to tell, but they will not air on TV.  I’m assuming they’ll do some sort of special edition Blu-ray release, or make these unseen story arcs available on the web.

The announcement also revealed other animated Star Wars project news, namely the Seth Green led Star Wars Detours comedy show, which has now been postponed indefinitely.

Finally, the announcement came with a video message from Dave Filoni in which he shows off a new clip from The Clone Wars, as well as hinting at a never before seen Star Wars time period that will get its own animated show (KOTOR anyone?).

It looks like Disney is finally flexing their new Star Wars muscles in the animated realm, so the Force only knows what direction these types of projects will take in the near future.  I just hope they don’t quit making these animated shorts altogether, because they have been some of the better Star Wars material since the Original Trilogy.  You’ve been hoping to see a few more solid Clone Wars episodes…
