As if there was any more reason to go see The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, sources are now reporting that attached to the movie is the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
According to Star Wars 7 News, their sources indicate that a local theater manager said that the teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is indeed attached to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Perhaps an even bigger indicator that this is true is a tweet from the first assistant director on The Force Awakens, Reece Steel. However, this tweet and the account that tweeted it were shortly deleted afterwards so it’s unclear if this is legitimate.
Still, multiple sources are claiming that the first teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be shown in the coming attractions before The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which releases December 17.
The tricky part about this is that Star Wars is a Disney property while the Hobbit is not and there are rules about companies cross-promoting. Perhaps Disney knows that The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will have one of the biggest draws this holiday season and is looking to begin building hype for The Force Awakens for its release December 18, 2015.
