In this episode of Star Wars Time, Nick and I fire up our lightsabers and zero in on the two major Star Wars universe reveals from last week. We don’t waste anytime getting into a discussion about Rian Johnson’s newly announced Star Wars trilogy, which is the news item we spend the bulk of the show talking about.
In particular, we make cases for the various time periods that the trilogy could be set in. Nick and I felt like there were five potential timeframes in the Star Wars saga that would be best suited for this trilogy, but in reality we think there are only two that make the most sense. The five time periods discussed are the Old Republic, the Prequel’s Republic, the Empire’s Reign, the near 40 years between Jedi and The Force Awakens, and finally the post new Skywalker trilogy setting. Like I said though, we feel that the Old Republic and the time between Episodes VI and VII make the most sense because there is plenty of storytelling potential for those periods, which haven’t been explored in film or TV yet like the others.
After going on about the new Johnson helmed trilogy we shift our sights to the live-action Star Wars TV show, which will air sometime in 2019 on Disney’s new streaming service. Like the above discussion, we debate when the show will take place, and what it may be about. We both think it could loosely follow the originally planned live-action Star Wars TV show’s plot, which would take place in Coruscant’s underbelly, but we also ponder other settings and narratives.
