Star Wars Time: Recasting Leia, Finn and Rey in Episode IX, and Tony Gilroy Hates Star Wars

In this episode of Star Wars Time Nick and I manage to leave the prequels alone, mostly, because we shifted our sights to a movement going on in Star Wars fandom. This movement deals with petition: Cast Meryl Streep as Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode IX!, which we both agree just can’t happen. I offer up the standpoint that if anyone could channel Fisher as Leia it would be Streep, but even then the move would be too sacrilegious for me to buy into.

We also discuss a few tidbits from Star Wars: Episode IX. John Boyega revealed that he and Daisy Ridley will have their Star Wars characters reunited for an adventure in Episode IX, and that they will not be separated for the whole film like they were in The Last Jedi. One aspect of this reveal that we zero in on is what will happen with Rose if Finn and Daisy are teamed up again? We may even talk about something Simon Pegg said about JJ’s original plans for Rey’s parents as we discuss this Episode IX reveal.

Finally, and we definitely went on a few tangents before getting to our last topic, but we have a frank conversation about an interview featuring Tony Gilroy talking about his work on Rogue One. Let’s just say that he came off like a pompous ass, and that most Star Wars fans would probably agree that he doesn’t like the franchise, and that he considers himself the sole reason why Rogue One was as good as it was. Spoiler! He’s a dick.
