Of course Nick and I had to fire up the mics for a special edition of our Star Wars Time Show podcast after it was revealed that J.J. Abrams would be taking over as a writer and the director for Star Wars: Episode IX. Disney and Lucasfilm were quick to name Abrams as the replacement director after Colin Trevorrow was let go two weeks ago, so Nick and I discuss why he was chosen and where things may go from here now that he’s in charge of directing and writing for the film.
Thanks to J.J.’s hiring we also discuss the two delays for the film. It was first revealed that the movie would be pushed back to December 2019 from May, which will not keep the new trilogy films as holiday releases. Shortly after that reveal, Lucasfilm also announced that production on the film wouldn’t start now until June 2018. It was originally scheduled to start filming this January.
