2015 is right around the corner, with each passing December day bringing us ever closer to the new year. The past twelve months have brought with it a ton of new games and IPs, some lackluster releases, and a good bit of controversy. Instead of dwelling on these events and games, however, it’s best to ring in 2015 with a fresh mind, something that’s done easily enough when looking at numerous exciting games that are set to release early in the year. Below are five games you’re going to want to get your hands on, all releasing within the near future.

5) Citizens of Earth:

In many ways a love letter to Earthbound, Citizens of Earth captures the silly Americana aesthetic of the classic Super Nintendo RPG and puts a more modern twist on it.

Players take on the role of the newly elected Vice President of the World in Citizens of Earth, who has headed back to his hometown in order for some much needed rest. The vacation, however, is cut short, as it becomes clear that something is not quite right. In order to get to the bottom of the strange happenings, the VP recruits an eclectic cast of characters and heads out to kick some ass and drink some coffee.

Citizens of Earth packs charm, classic RPG gameplay and a wonderful visual style, making it a surefire hit for those who like their video games with an extra slice of quirk.

4) Final Fantasy Type-0 HD:

The original Japanese release of Final Fantasy Type-0 for the PSP marked a new direction for the storied Final Fantasy series. Type-0’s action combat and large cast immediately stood out and the game’s more mature story made it one of 2011’s most popular releases.

Luckily, Western gamers will be able to get their hands on the updated Final Fantasy Type-0 HD this upcoming March.

As an added bonus, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will ship with a playable demo of Final Fantasy XIV. Let that sink in for a second.

3) The Order: 1886:

Much has been said about Ready at Dawn’s upcoming PS4 exclusive, The Order: 1886. Featuring stunning graphics and an awesome alternate history setting, The Order looks to be a marriage of cinematic storytelling and intense combat.

The Order: 1886 has a lot going for it, clearly, but one of its most exciting elements is the largely mysterious story. For as much as the gaming world knows about The Order, the game’s narrative has largely been left shrouded in obscurity.

PlayStation 4 owners hungry for the next big console exclusive will be able to get their hands on The Order: 1886 on February 20, 2015.

Have no doubts about it, Turtle Rock Studio’s Evolve look absolutely amazing. The focus on asymmetrical multiplayer, pitting teams of four hunters against a solitary beast is exciting in and of itself, but the inclusion of different characters with unique play styles sets the bar even higher.

Evolve has the potential to change the multiplayer market when it releases in early February, thanks largely to its awesome gameplay mechanics and unique take on the multiplayer formula.

1) Bloodborne:

From Software’s upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive is everything a Souls fan could dream of. The dark, Gothic setting of Bloodborne and its emphasis on fast, visceral and weighty combat are the next evolution in the developer’s signature format and everything that has been seen of the game to date looks great.

As an added bonus, Sony and From Soft recently announced that Bloodborne will have a bonus area called the ‘Chalice Dungeon’ that is essentially a procedurally generated death lair. With shifting layouts and random enemy and boss placements, Bloodborne’s most exciting element is its most random one.

Bloodborne is set to release on March 24, 2015 and is certainly one video game worth getting excited about.
