Streets of Rage 4 Is Happening Thanks to Dotemu

Publisher Dotemu and developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games today announced that they have teamed up to bring Streets of Rage 4 to life thanks to a partnership with Sega. A new trailer and screenshots have been released to show off how the game looks and plays.

I have to say that I’m digging the visuals, which are vastly improved over the last Streets of Rage, but not in a way that make the game feel like a different title altogether. The hand drawn cel-shaded style of the in-game characters is unique for the franchise, but the visuals still feel like they’re paying homage to the 90’s Streets of Rage titles. The cutscenes on the other hand are full on mini-anime movies, and they look perfect for the franchise.

At this time platform and release date information haven’t been provided, but the game will be at PAX West, so we should all get more information on it after the show. I would guess that the game will be a holiday release, or an early 2019 release for most platforms. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
