The fourth mainline entry into the Gears of War saga manages to feel both familiar and new at the same time.

Given an extensive preview during the Microsoft E3 presser, Gears of War 4 brings back the series’ lauded third-person cover shooting, chainsaw weapon attachments, and dark locations. What is new for the series, however, is that characters seem to have considerably more realistic proportions.

As seen in the gameplay preview above, Gears of War 4 has a lot going for it. Fans of the series will be pleased to see that the game seems to follow in the same tread as its predecessors, offering larger-than-life characters and intense shootouts. There’s a lot to see and digest in the new Gears of War 4 footage, and most of it seems to be for the better.

It will be a while before Gears-hungry gamers can get their hands on Gears of War 4, as the gameplay footage points to a Holiday 2016 release window.
