TBS to Exclusively Televise eSports Competitive Gaming Events Beginning in 2016

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. and WME | IMG have formed a new partnership to create an eSports competitive gaming league that will air exclusively on TBS, and they’ve already partnered with Valve to make Counter-Strike: Global Offensive its featured game during the league’s first season.

The new league will be based at Turner Studios in Atlanta, which will also serve as the location for filming the live competitive experience. The new eSports league will officially kick off in 2016, and TBS has committed to airing 10 consecutive weeks of programming every Friday night two times a year, which is the largest commitment to eSports broadcasting by any network to date. The 10 week run will consist of a regular season, the playoffs, and eventually the championship.

This is definitely a great sign for eSports considering a major cable network is willing to commit this much attention to competitive gaming. Hopefully it will be a success and other publishers will add their game to the mix, because while Counter-Strike has long been a staple on the eSports scene, it’d be nice to get a few more modern shooters in there like Halo 5, Gears of War, and Call of Duty.

Stay tuned for more details as they trickle out.
