Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead Collection Review (Xbox One)
So there’s no need to go super in-depth about how great the TTG Walking Dead games are, we already know that. The Collection is simply all of those fantastic games wrapped up in one package with a big bow just in time for Christmas. Not only that, but it’s gotten a creepy little graphical upgrade, especially the first season.
The first season has easily been cranked up a notch on the creepiness scale thanks to the graphical upgrade. Walkers in the shadows are just that much harder to see when they aren’t moving too much, and environments look surprisingly good for a game that’s over five years old. Musical cues and emotional moments are elevated just that little bit that makes a great game even better. Obviously the newer games in the series didn’t really get the overhaul that the original did, since they already look pretty damn good.
Even if you’ve already played the first season, I recommend getting this updated version, simply to see how much better it looks. If you already own every single season and everything, it might not be worth the money so much now. That’s a lot of money to drop on a not really massive upgrade in visuals. The one person that I can truly recommend this to, hands-down, is anyone that hasn’t played any of these games yet.
TTG The Walking Dead is easily one of the best story-driven series of all time, it’s one of the nastiest emotional roller coasters in videogame history. With fantastic writing, voice acting, and engrossing cel-shaded visuals, if you’ve never played these games before, you’ll feel so many emotions. Some scenes will make you so happy that you’ll want to cry, and some choices that you’re forced to make will just make you cry period. The first season, in my opinion, will always be the best of any TTG series, and that might just be because it was the first one that I ever played.
Again, you’ve already seen all of the reviews for these games, and if you still haven’t given them a shot, then this is the time to do it. The games all look fantastic now, and there’s no better time to experience them!
