Last week, developers KING Art Games announced their decision to bring The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 to the ever popular crowd-funding site, Kickstarter. Fans of the original adventure game were ecstatic to hear the news, especially KING Art’s statement that raising money through Kickstarter was not specifically to raise funds to develop the game in full, but rather to improve upon what had already been built.
The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 has seen a successful Kickstarter period already, raising an impressive $145,000 in mere days. KING Art has announced that because of the enormous support their project has received, The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 will now include additional side quests, optional character outfits, and an orchestral soundtrack.
In addition to these game-improving features, King Arts will also be launching an official development blog, as well as a series of behind the scenes videos chronicling The Book of Unwritten Tales 2’s development.
The near overnight success of The Book of Unwritten Tales 2’s Kickstarter program marks what may become the new trend in crowd-funding. KING Art won over a considerable amount of donations simply for the fact that those who chose to pledge to the project were making a donation strictly to making an already realized game all the better. Many developers take to Kickstarter in order to fund a passion game project, but The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is on the site specifically for the betterment of the game post ‘completion’. If others devs follow KING Art’s directive, perhaps gamers will finally start to get games that are the absolute best product available.
