Lucasfilm, by way of the official StarWars.com website, has officially unveiled the main cast for Star Wars: Episode 7, which is being directed by J.J. Abrams. Outside of the original Star Wars cast members, many of the actors in Episode 7 are new to the Star Wars franchise, and not very well known actors.
The official cast will be made up of the following actors: John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.
Outside of the original Star Wars cast members the roles of the other actors have yet to be revealed. I’m a huge fan of Andy Serkis, so it’ll be interesting to see if he’ll get a live-action role, or if he’ll be another CGI character, which is an art form he’s mastered in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Peter Jackson’s Tolkien films.
J.J. had this to say about the cast reveal, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode 7. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
It looks like it’s finally time to start filming, so Star Wars: Episode 7 should be on track to make its December 18, 2015 release date. Stay tuned for more details as they’re released.
