The Dark Lord of the Sith Gets Behind Android in Japan

Apparently, Darth Vader is an Android fan.  I guess it really isn’t that far fetched considering he used to build droids himself when he was a dopey young kid on Tatooine.  In a marketing campaign that can only be described as odd, the largest Japanese cellular company, NTT DoCoMo, uses Darth Vader as the spokesman for the new Android based Samsung phone.

I understand we all have different cultures and forms of entertainment, but I really can’t tell you how Darth Vader fits in this campaign.  Are the Japanese saying that you’ll be dark and evil if you use Android phones?  Maybe they meant that you’ll be a fear inducing bad*ss?  How about the notion that you could get your very own Darth Vader that will follow you around like a loyal dog?

After you watch the TV spot below, you may come up with your own theory on what Darth Vader is supposed to be depicting in this commercial.  Either way, having Darth Vader’s support for Android based phones is just fine with me.  You’ve been wondering if Darth Vader was a fandroid, or fanboy…
