The Hobbit Gets a New Rating for the Extended DVD Release

Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies is getting an R-rating, as confirmed by the specs for the DVD and Blu-ray. While the films earned a PG-13 rating in theaters, Jackson’s extended version must be pretty violent to earn the new rating.

The extended home release includes an extra twenty minutes of footage and nine hours of bonus features, along with commentary from Peter Jackson and Philippa Boyens, and a history of the filming of The Battle of the Five Armies.
