Yesterdays Disney news that they now own the Star Wars franchise has rejuvenated my passion for the long running sci-fi franchise. I apologize if the site has been a little Star Wars centric the past two days, but this is the series that turned me into the geek that I am, and the thought of more movies coming out that won’t be directed by George has gotten me very excited. There’s all kinds of rumors coming out now about what the next Star Wars trilogy will focus on, and one former biographer of Lucas says he may know the answer. Dave Pollock wrote an unauthorized Lucas biography called “Skywalking: The Life And Films Of George Lucas”, and during his interviews with the director George indicated that he wrote a summary of what Star Wars 7-9 could be about.
Pollack alluded to the fact that this trilogy would focus on a 40-year-old Luke, which is exactly what my long time Star Wars pal, Eric Linden, proposed last night as we fanboyed out on the subject. I though his idea was great. Why not fast forward the new trilogy to a time when Luke is a wise and veteran Jedi Master, so the original cast could be brought back to reprise the roles that put them on the Hollywood map way back in the 70’s and 80’s? It has potential, and if Pollock isn’t completely trying to whore himself out with this new Star Wars news then it may not be too far from what we actually see in 2015.
In addition to this rumor the official Star Wars channel also put out a new video that features the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker, which I found to be both sad (it features around a minute of prequel footage) and entertaining. My main motivation for posting this tribute is to validate the fact that the two existing Star Wars trilogies have, and always will be a tale about Anakin Skywalker (Still don’t believe me? Read the vids description on YouTube). A few months ago a reader of ours (scroll through the comments, they’re quite entertaining) tried to challenge that claim among other things, so I’m glad that I can now showcase this point to him/her with Lucasfilm’s stamp of approval.
Suck it haters! You’ve been hoping the next batch of Star Wars movies are actually watchable…
