Today Daedalic Entertainment and Middle-earth Enterprises announced the latest video game title to come from their partnership, which is a 2021 multiplatform game called The Lord of the Rings – Gollum. It’s said to be a narrative-based action-adventure game that will follow Smeagol during his time with the One Ring.
The narrative promise to stay true to the source material, but it will also touch on new events related to Smeagol/Gollum’s story. “We tell Gollum’s story from a perspective never seen before, in any storytelling medium, all the while staying true to the legendary books of J.R.R. Tolkien,” says Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann. “At a time when the games industry is undergoing structural changes and seeing new business models evolve, we are excited to realize a huge new production based on a story that has stayed fresh and relevant for more than 60 years.”
The game is being developed in-house, and is slated for a 2021 PC release, with a promise to also be available on current consoles at that time. There sounds like additional games may come out of this partnership to boot.
Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
