‘The Red Strings Club’ Review
The Red Strings Club is a retro, cyberpunk narrative about fate and happiness. It features extensive use of pottery, bar-tending and impersonating people on the phone in order to take down the corporation, Supercontinent Ltd, and the crazy conspiracy unfolding in front of you. Supercontinent Ltd. is on the verge of releasing ‘Social Psyche Welfare’: a system that eliminates depression, anger and even fear. Sounds great, right? The bartender of The Red Strings Club and a freelance hacker feel this is not an evolution, but a complete and total brainwashing. Alongside some unknowing company employees and a rogue empathy android, the duo will pull every string necessary to bring down this horrible scheme. That said, The Red Strings Club is an absolute joy.
There are three main features in The Red Strings Club: psychological bartending, genetic implant pottery and vocal corporate espionage. Each feature helps the player get closer and closer to shutting down the corporation’s evil plans.
- Psychological Bartending – Read your customer’s’ mood and mix the perfect cocktail to manipulate the client’s emotions in order to gather the information you want and progress your agenda of stopping Supercontinent’s plans.
- Genetic Implant Pottery – Design genetic implants at a high-tech lathe to change the attitude and direction of the corporation’s most influential executives.
- Vocal Corporate Espionage – Assume the voice of important figures in the Social Psyche Welfare project and play their own motivations against each other over the phone to uncloak their plans.
There are also multiple endings with different characters you meet along different paths, so it is definitely encouraged to play The Red Strings Club multiple times through to get the full experience!
The first thing that grabbed my attention was the style of art Deconstructeam used for The Red Strings Club, it’s absolutely gorgeous and fitting for the game. The colors used and the neon lights really set an ominous and futuristic feel for the world around you. This is one of the most creative games I’ve played in a while! They creators took simple features such as pottery and bartending and added an exciting technological/scientific twist. Another feature I particularly enjoyed was the soundtrack. It’s very ominous and jazzy, while also being futuristic to fit the setting. It’s a soundtrack I could see being quite popular on Steam! I would also like to mention that there is nudity and cursing within the game, so I highly suggest The Red Strings Club for older gamers.
The dialog is planned out to be descriptive as possible with some humor and cursing sprinkled. The elegant dialog actually took the creators years to perfect! The game itself is lovely. I jumped into this review knowing absolutely nothing about The Red Strings Club, but I ultimately came to find it’s very enjoyable! Everything about the game; the style, the music, the dialog and the vibe drew me in and kept me playing. The Red Strings Club is different in it’s own beautifully unique way! I’m so thankful I got to review The Red Strings Club and I plan on playing it through a couple more times to find all of the endings.
The Red Strings Club is available on PC & Mac and will be available January 22nd, 2018!
