There’s a Free AR App for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Movie

Sony has created an augmented reality app for their upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man movie for iOS devices. It’s essentially a marketing tool, but it is a pretty nifty free app that will keep you entertained for at least 30 minutes. Basically, you use your phone’s camera to focus on Spider-Man markers, and if you frame it correctly you’ll see Spider-Man prancing around your computer screen with available interactions based on your screen taps.
I’m always intrigued by anything AR based, so I gave this app a try. It’s safe to say that it won’t remain on my iPhone for long, but it’s still a worthwhile app to try out (it’s free for Christ’s sake). I could see kids being slightly more entertained than us mature older geeks, but in the end it’s just a mobile commercial.
