These Four Directors Are Rumored to be On Disney’s Short List to Direct Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3
Disney is still trying to fill the void left behind by James Gunn in the Guardians of the Galaxy MCU-verse after he was fired over the summer. While I still don’t agree with Disney’s move, and do believe no one can make Guardians 3 as authentic feeling as Gunn could, the franchise will live on and someone needs to fill Gunn’s shoes.
Well, according to a new report by SuperBroMovies, it appears that Disney has at least four candidates lined up to take over for Gunn. Dee Rees, Michelle MacLaren, S.J. Clarkson, and Jane Campion are all rumored to be on a short list for the Director spot, and they’re all females, which shouldn’t matter to normal people. Although, I will say that none of these directors have had experience in directing comedy, which we know the Guardians franchise is built upon, so it’s remain to be seen if any of these Directors can maintain the comedic tone in the delayed sequel. MacLaren and Clarkson seem like the best fits based on their previous works, which include shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Defenders, and Jessica Jones, so they’ve at least worked on big-budget-blockbuster style productions.
I think Taika from Thor: Ragnarok is the most ideal replacement, but apparently he’s not interested, probably out of support for Gunn and his being kicked off the film. I’m sure there are others in the running too, so we will just have to wait and see how all of this plays out.
