Thrones Time: Game of Thrones Prequel Speculations and GRRM’s Failed ASOIAF Book Schedule
Other Nick and I dusted off the Thrones Time studio to talk about HBO’s new Game of Thrones prequel, which was officially announced two weeks ago. On the cast we mostly speculate about the prequel’s setting in terms of timeline, as well as what characters may be featured in the series. All we know is that it will be set at least 10,000 years prior to the events of the current show, and that the Age of Heroes will be featured. Outside of that we purely speculate on what events we may see, as well as the characters carrying out those events.
We both agree that the Night King has to be involved, and we both would like to see the fabled Azor Ahai in action. Although, we go through an article that highlights possible characters such as Bran the Builder, so we discuss which of those would work in this prequel too.
Of course we couldn’t let George R.R. Martin’s often delayed book six and seven off the hook in this cast, so we talk about how long it’s been taking him now that he’s become famous from the HBO show, which has tied him up with other projects. I went on the record and said that we will probably never get all of his planned ASOIAF books for one reason or another, which is a shame because the show will now define the narrative, and not the original creator. That’s a bummer, but it’s all on George, so I guess HBO’s version will just have to be the definitive one for now, which again will ultimately cheapen whatever George does eventually release.
