Titanfall 2‘s big, impressive new trick it learned from the first game is that it’s going to have its very own single-player campaign. The precedent that the first game set for fast-paced gameplay is only going to be matched or trumped by the sequel. This means that whatever story gets written has to be able to work with that, it’s gotta highlight the action, and when it slows down, there better be a damn good reason.

With the huge emphasis that we’ve been shown on the connection between the pilot and the Titan, there’s no doubt that we’re going to see a lot of plot being drawn around this relationship. Not to mention, the Titans are actually capable of free thought now, they have personalities, whereas last time around, they were just kind of there to serve until they blew up and you got a new one two minutes later.

Only time (and more trailers) will be able to tell if they’re going in a good direction with this single-player story. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the quick little trailer above to get a peek at what’s to come.
