The J.R.R. Tolkien biopic starring Nicholas Hoult as the iconic creator of Middle-earth has gotten its first trailer today, and you can check it out above.
The film will portray Tolkien in his formative years and showcase the relationships and moments that led him to create one of the greatest, if not the greatest work of fantasy fiction ever created. It looks like the film will also follow Tolkien into World War I, which also greatly impacted his writings and shaped the events and tone of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
Tolkien is set to hit theaters on May 10, 2019.
TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.
