This announcement is a sign of things to come, hopefully. Now that Verizon and Apple have finally established a relationship together, it opens up the doors for the iPhone to join its big brother. The Wi-Fi only iPad will hit Verizon store shelves on 10/28 with a free Mi-Fi dongle to provide 3G access, and will retail for the same price as the AT&T 3G models. The reason for this is because Verizon uses a different 3G network than AT&T. I’m still going to hold out on the iPad because I know the 2nd generation will be much improved, but this news is huge regardless.
It’s only a matter of time now before the iPhone is unshackled from AT&T. Some insiders are speculating that this could happen during the first quarter of 2011. I’m skeptical of that because of the 2012 deal Apple has with AT&T, but in this day and age you can get out of any contract with a good lawyer and some cash. Stay tuned for further Verizon/Apple news. You’ve been getting closer and closer to having an Apple device on a good network…
