The first trailer for Jon Favreau’s live-action The Lion King dropped yesterday, and it’s already been viewed almost 12 million times. One would say that makes it a pretty popular trailer, which shouldn’t surprise anyone considering that this movie is based on the timeless animated classic of the same name from Disney. Of course it’s going to be popular, but what makes this first trailer even more interesting, is the fact that it is almost identical to the trailer for the original animated version of The Lion King.
Thanks to the folks over at Darth Blender, you can now watch the live-action trailer and the original 1994 animated version in a side-by-side setting to compare them frame by frame. The similarities are uncanny, and of course by design. In fact, it looks like Favreau may be trying to faithfully recreate the whole film in a live-action setting, because the trailer appears so similar to the animated one. It’s brilliant to say the least, and probably added to the chills I felt while watching it.
Head on up above to check out the side-by-side comparison. The standard version of the live-action The Lion King trailer can be seen below.
