InXile has revealed that Wasteland 2 will be released at the end of August this year. Wasteland 2 will be a sequel to the original 1988 Wasteland that was developed by Interplay Productions. Wasteland was a post apocalyptic role-playing game that is regarded as the predecessor to Interplay’s 1997, and still very relevant today, Fallout game.
Wasteland may not have secured any sequels like its younger brother did, but a recent Kickstarter campaign led by InXile Entertainment has finally made Wasteland 2 possible after two decades. Wasteland 2 will still be set in a post apocalyptic south-western United States, same as the first Wasteland, but set 15 years after the events of the first game.
Wasteland 2 has managed to raise $2.9 million on Kickstarter and prides itself as being the 7th most successful Kickstarter video game project ever. Brian Fargo, the founder of Interplay and InXile, is confident that they will deliver on backers expectations with 50+ hours of gameplay available. The game will feature turn based gameplay and decisions that will “carry consequences”.
A beta is currently available on Steam here, with the game supporting Windows, Mac and Linux. A release on consoles, however, is said to be “unlikely”.
