At this point this weekly post should just be re-titled – “What Backlog Titles Gamers Want to Play”, because this is the fourth week in a row without a major new video game release. Things will start to pickup in February, but for now you shouldn’t expect any water cooler worthy gaming experiences.

The most intriguing looking new release this week is called Olli Olli, which is a PS Vita exclusive. This retro looking skateboard title is a 2D side scroller inspired by the venerable Tony Hawk franchise, and features 100 tricks to pull off in the game’s randomly generated levels.

The other two titles coming out this week are re-releases on a new platform. The first is KickBeat Steam Edition, and the second is Lucifer Ring from the PS1 import collection. The latter is only available on the PS3.

Our Recommendation

Olli Olli definitely has some retro gaming charm going for it, so if you’re into skateboarding and need to freshen up your PS Vita’s collection, it’s not a bad option. Otherwise you may want to dig into your backlog. If you subscribe to PS+ there’s a few new free games to download such as DMC, BioShock Infinite, and Borderlands 2, as well as the Instant Games collection that features more than a handful of playable titles.
