I hope you’ve been pinching your pennies during the dry entertainment months of December and January, because it’s about that time of year when new triple-A video game titles start to hit the market again.  Both SoulCalibur V and Final Fantasy XIII-2 are being released this week for the PS3 and Xbox 360.  I think I’m going to pass on the fighting game, but I’m definitely interested in the sequel to FF XIII.  I enjoyed the stripped down version of 13, but I was definitely in the minority on that one, so I’m hoping XIII-2 still has the ability to capture my attention.

The Blu-ray/DVD front is also full of quality titles for geeks to own, or at least rent for a solid evening of sci/fi movie watching.  Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D is number 1 on my list for new Blu-rays to own this week, because I’ve been waiting to add this title to my growing 3D collection since this Summer.  Timberlake’s In Time also comes out this week, and while it was a turd at the box office I still am interested in watching it, but maybe just as a rental.  Drive featuring Ryan Gosling as a stunt driver turned wheel man also looks very interesting, and if it’s RT’s (93% fresh) score is any indication of its worth, I’d say it’s a must own.  Finally, The Thing prequel is also coming out this week, so if you’re into the horror seen I’d recommend checking that flick out.

That’s it for what geeks want this week!  I can’t believe I’m excited to watch a Transformers movie again, but I can’t wait to see how Dark of the Moon performs in my 3D Home Theater!  You’ve been ready for some bot on bot 3D action…

Video games to buy for the week of 1.30.12

As far as triple-A games go you have two choices this week.  You either go with FF XIII-2, or SoulCaliburV, which are available on both major consoles.  If you’ve been wanting to return to an oldie but goodie, there’s some new DLC coming out this week for Dead Island.  You can click on the box art images below to buy each title for the system of your choosing.

Blu-rays/DVDs to buy for the week of 1.30.12

Transformers, more than meets the eye!  Without a doubt the gem to pick up this week if you have 3D capabilities at home is the super duper edition of Transformers: Dark of the Moon.  I’d also recommend checking out Drive, and if you need a rental I’d go with In Time.  You can buy these films by clicking on their image below.
