What Geeks Want for the Week of 12/12/11
Once again gamers are faced with another week of lackluster video game releases with DLC offerings headlining the list of what to spend your money on this week. RAAM’s Shadow for Gears of War 3 is tops on my list, but there are some other triple-A games getting a boost with DLC this week as well. AC: Revelations is getting an ancestor’s character pack, and Xbox 360/PC gamers are getting the Back to Karkand pack for Battlefield 3. The mobile gaming front is getting a nostalgic offering this week with the release of the 10th Anniversary mobile edition of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto III.
On the Blu-ray/DVD front Rise of the Planet of the Apes will be coming out on Tuesday, and it will be a worthy addition to your home movie collection. This little flick about smart monkeys was the surprise hit of the Summer blockbusters, and it definitely deserves your attention even if you’re not a geek. It makes for a great pet movie as well, so don’t snub it just because you think it’s all about sci-fi. As always you can head on down below to pick up these recommended items of geekiness to beef up your entertainment offerings. You’ve been wondering what to spend your holiday money on…
Video games to buy for the week of 12.12.11
Like I mentioned earlier the only worthwhile video game purchases this week lie in the DLC arena. Mega titles like Gears of War 3, BF3, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations are all getting new content to download. If you’ve been wanting to see where the GTA craze truly began you could pick up the mobile enhanced version of GTA: III on 12/15. Outside of these offering it’s another dry week in the land of gaming. The DLC content can be downloaded via your consoles specific stores, and GTA: III should be available on your mobile device’s app store later in the week.
Blu-ray/DVDs to buy for the week of 12.12.11
Without a doubt one of the best films of the Summer 2011 season was Rise. I think this movie surprised everyone, and in a Summer full of comic book films it definitely held its own. Andy Serkis’ performance as Caeser could go down as one of the greatest CG acting jobs of all-time. If you haven’t seen this flick you’re missing out on a great story, and some excellent special effects work. If you’ve got some younglings in your brood you may want to grab Kung Fu Panda 2 as it also drops this week. Please click on the images below to pick up either of these films below.
